Salty Chocolate-Caramel Apple

INGREDIENTS

4 Granny Smith apples

4 wooden popsicle sticks

18 soft caramels

1 oz. bittersweet chocolate

2 T water

1/2 t vanilla

30 salted mini-pretzels, crushed (about 1 c.)

DIRECTIONS
  1. Insert wooden sticks 3/4 the way into the stem end of the apples.
  2. Combine caramels, water and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat.  Cook, stirring often, until chocolate and caramel melt and are smooth.  Stir in vanilla.  Gently dip the bottoms of the apples into the mixture, turning to coat.  Set aside on wax paper.
  3. Place pretzels in a bowl.  Roll bottoms of apples in the crushed pretzels, place on serving plate lined with wax paper, and refrigerate until caramel coating is firm, about 20 minutes.
