Toasted Bread and Chocolate

The success of these easy pieces of toast and chocolate is the quality of the ingredients.  Be sure to use a high quality bread and gourmet chocolate.

PREP TIME: 15 minutes

8 1/2-inch-thick slices rustic bread, peasant bread or baguette
Extra-virgin olive oil
4 oz. best-quality bittersweet chocolate, very coarsely chopped
Kosher salt



Position a rack 4 inches from the broiler element and heat to high.
Put the bread on a baking sheet and toast until just slightly golden on both sides, 1 to 2 minutes per side (watch very carefully!).
Drizzle the toast with olive oil. Distribute the chocolate evenly on top of the toast.
Turn off the oven and return the bread to the oven until the residual heat melts the chocolate, about 1 minute.  Sprinkle a pinch of salt on each slice and serve.
