Asparagus Wrapped with Proscuitto

24-36 fresh asparagus stalks, trimmed
6 prosciutto slices
1/2 c freshly grated pecorino or parmesan cheese
1/2 c melted butter
2 t finely diced garlic
fresh ground pepper
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Steam asparagus for 5 minutes. Bundle 4-6 asparagus stalks and wrap with one slice of prosciutto.  Repeat using all of the asparagus and prosciutto.
  3. Place the bundles in a buttered baking dish, sprinkle with the cheese.  Lightly saute the garlic in the butter and drizzle over the bundles. 
  4. Bake 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.  These can be made the day before and refrigerated.  Bring to room temperature the day of and serve.
