Winter Olympics 2010 Opening Ceremony Party
Our neighbor to the north is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.  The opening ceremony... Friday, February 12, 2010.  For those of you lucky enough to be attending, have a fantastic time!!  The rest of us can be there too (more or less) by hosting a Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Party.
Let the games begin!

For a very authentic invite, we took the Opening Ceremony ticket from the official Vancouver 2010 site and overlaid party details.  These can then be printed and mailed or sent in an email to your guests.
Not so computer savvy?  Winter sport themed invitations can be used, like these at zazzle.com.  Just include your party details and mail.
Set the Scene

Bring the feel of the Olympics to your party room when you decorate with these items:

  • The Olympic Torch Relay Game  - The Olympic Torch arrived in Canada on October 30, 2009 and will enter the stadium in Vancouver on February 12, 2010.  For nearly 3 1/2 months the torch has zig zagged its way across Canada.  Give your guests paper & pen and have them guess which Canadian cities and towns the torch has passed through.  The guest with the most correct guesses wins! You'll find help here with the torch route and list of communities.
  • Create your own Olympic Games.  Set up several tables and play round robin games of Pick-Up Sticks, Tiddly Winks, Jacks, and Tic-Tac-Toe.  Award gold, silver and bronze medals to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each game.
Party Favors
  • Olympic collector pins from the official Team USA shop.  We counted 62 different styles.  Make them all the same or, better yet, select a different pin for each guest!
Party Prizes
The Olympics are in Canada after all, so a little English, a little French, a little local fare...Which will it be for your menu?   We started with some of the most commonly used ingredients in traditional Canadian cooking; mussels, salmon, pork, beer, maple syrup and cheese, and incorporated them in these fantastic recipes:
